COPY
I am a Co-founder, the Head of Operations & Music Team Co-Lead for COPY, an online publication and platform for emerging artists of all kinds.
COPY’S Mission
COPY is an online space supporting young and emerging artists. We strive to create an alternative online community to social media where artists can showcase their work and interact with peers in a more accessible fashion. COPY places value on the creation of work rather than reception, lifting up artists for what they have made rather than what or who has been deemed commercially viable. With our writings, we aspire to create a dialogue around more obscure work as well as share a fresh perspective on art that we feel deserves recognition. We believe that the most innovative arts communities have always championed the underdog and place no value on exclusivity.
My Role
As Head of Operations, I designed and currently manage internal processes for article publication, live events, and onboarding new team members and contributors. I developed the COPY Handbook and coordinate all teams (COPY has 30+ team members, admin team members, and contributors). I am also the Music Team Co-Lead, for which I direct team brainstorming settings, supervise articles by Music Team members, and write my own monthly articles.
What Makes COPY Different
Inspired by the ephemeral nature of coffee shop bulletin boards, we created the Community Boards (music, film, visual arts, live events). Updated bimonthly, the Community Boards feature newly-released work by filmmakers, bands, visual artists, as well as links to any upcoming events (gallery shows, concerts, screenings).
The writings section of COPY does not include standard reviews, instead contributors write about art world perspectives from the insider vs. outsider boundary, random but resonant pop culture fixations, compelling critiques, and highlights of emerging artists.
